Due to recently reimposed economic sanctions against the country, Nike has announced it will no longer provide cleats for the Iranian national soccer team. The announcement comes just over a week before Iran plays their first World Cup match against Morocco. According to a report from Deadspin, Iran’s players have taken various steps to make sure they will be equipped to play with some asking non-Iranian players on their club teams to loan them cleats. A team official adds that players have also had friends acquire Nike cleats or have simply gone out and bought their own footwear at stores.
