Several attorney generals announced lawsuits against Purdue Pharma LP, the maker of OxyContin. The suits accuse the company of partially fueling a national opioid epidemic by deceptively marketing prescription painkillers for profit. US state attorneys from Nevada, Texas, Florida, North Carolina, North Dakota and Tennessee separately sued Purdue Pharma for violating consumer protection laws. The lawsuits also allege that the company denied or downplayed the risks of addiction while boasting about the benefits of opioids.
