Jimmy Kimmel and Donald Trump Trade Barbs Over Ratings 7 Mar 2018 04:29 PM EST

Donald Trump is once again paying more attention to the ratings other people get than matters at hand.

While the administration seems troubled with staff either agreeing to cooperate with Robert Mueller's investigation or resigning, the president is instead getting into a feud with Jimmy Kimmel over ratings.

After Jimmy Kimmel hosted the Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday, the news published reports that the ratings were at an all-time low. Trump picked up on this of course and tweeted, "Lowest-rated Oscars in HISTORY. Problem is, we don't have Stars anymore — except your President (just kidding, of course)!"

After hosting the ceremony for the second year in a row, the late-night TV host responded, "Thanks, lowest-rated President in HISTORY."

On Tuesday night during his late-night talk fest, Kimmel once again fired back at Trump by discussing how he learned about the tweet from the president. He woke up to a text telling him to look at Trump's Twitter feed.

"As if I don't already do that every morning," he quipped.

He then put the jokes aside and talked seriously about the reason for the low ratings.

"But the truth is, every year since Netflix happened, the ratings are down for every big TV event: the Super Bowl, the Grammys, the Emmys, the Golden Globes," he explained.

Returning to his jokes Kimmel said he believes Trump himself is behind ratings being down and added the barb, "My tweet [responding to Trump's tweet] got twice as many likes as his tweet," followed by, "I know that's the thing that will get under his orange skin."

The jokes continued as he moved back to the Oscars, saying that while Trump often has issues with the Oscars, he would probably like The Shape of Water, the Best Picture winner.

"It's about a monster that has sex with a woman who can't talk about it; it's like his life story," he said with a nod to porn star Stormy Daniels and her non-disclosure agreement regarding her alleged affair with Trump.

Kimmel even discussed a retweet by Donald Trump Jr. of someone asking who didn't watch the Academy Awards. The President's eldest son responded by adding a raised-hand emoji.

"If you look closely, you know that's an authentic Trump hand because it's gold and tiny," joked Kimmel.
