First Same Sex Romance Featured On 'Bachelor In Paradise'

2019-08-21 15:53:211 Oct 2018 01:53 AM EST

According to CNN "Bachelor In Paradise" contestant Demi Burnett made franchise history. She is the first person in the history of the series to be involved in a same-sex romance on-camera. On Tuesday's episode of "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette" spinoff series, Demi admitted that she was "sexually fluid" and in a relationship with another woman named Kristian Haggerty. Haggerty was not previously on "Bachelor In Paradise," an ABC reality show, but was flown to Sayulita, Mexico, to appear on the episode. In the episode, Kristian shared that she's in a committed relationship with Burnett. GLAAD put out a statement in support of Demi and ABC's decision to go public with the news. Anthony Ramos, GLAAD's Head of Talent added, "This move to include a same-sex relationship in an honest fashion has the power to upend preconceived notions of LGBTQ people like Demi who are attracted to more than one gender."
