According to a report by Reuters, this year's Oscars will recognize popular films and shorten the length of the ceremony to just three hours, in an attempt to stave off slumping audiences for the most prestigious award show in the industry. The board of governors at the Academy of Motion Pictures said in a letter to members, " We have heard from many of you about improvements needed to keep the Oscars and our Academy relevant in a changing world. The board of governors took this charge seriously." Reuters reports that only 26.5 millions viewers tuned in to the almost four-hour long Oscar ceremony in March 2018, the smallest in the history of the 90 year-old Academy Awards.
