Drummer Who Launched Elvis Presley Has Died At 87

Drummer D.J. Fontana helped launch rock 'n' roll as Elvis Presley's sideman. His wife said Thursday her husband has died at age 87. According to AccessOnline.com, Karen Fontana says he died in his sleep in Nashville Wednesday night. Fontana rose from working Louisiana strip joints to the heights of musical history. He was Presley's first and longtime drummer.
