An alarming Apartment Therapy article entitled 'You’re Definitely Not Washing Your Bath Towels Enough' quoted a scientist who said using an unwashed towel was like washing one's face in a toilet. Turns out, the article was inspired by a survey sponsored by a company that sells washing machines. Fortunately, LifeHacker reports other scientists aren't too concerned about using towels that haven't been freshly washed. Microbiologist Jack Gilbert of the University of Chicago says washing towels more than once a week “wouldn’t do much unless people had gut infections and you were rubbing the towel in your mouth and eyes.” So don’t do that.
