Actress Valerie Harper is back on screen, despite her prolonged battle with cancer. The 78-year-old stars in "My Mom and the Girl," a short film written, directed and produced by Susie Singer Carter in which Harper plays a woman with Alzheimer's. Harper described the role as joyful to make, but also emotionally difficult as her own mother suffered from the disease. The film is Harper's first time back at work after a series of health setbacks. She was diagnosed with leptomeningeal carcinomatosis in 2013 and given just months to live. She has beaten that diagnosis but still struggles with her fight against cancer.
