Celebrities are no strangers to getting in Twitter wars, and James Woods is less of a stranger than many others.

This time he became involved in a feud regarding underage dating with Armie Hammer and Amber Tamblyn.

Armie Hammer and Timothée Chalamet star in the movie Call Me By Your Name, a gay drama set in Italy about a student who falls for his professor's young son.  While in this country the age of consent is between 16 and 18, in Italy the age of consent is only 14.

Towleroad, a gay website, tweeted a link on Sunday regarding an Entertainment Weekly post showing Hammer reading the Andre Aciman book the movie is based on.

Chad Felix Greene, a conservative gay author, replied to the post on Twitter, criticizing the basis of the movie: "24 year old man. 17 year old boy. Stop."

Wood then happened upon Greene's comment and decided to add his two cents.

"As they quietly chip away the last barriers of decency. #NAMBLA," he wrote.

He was, of course, referring to the North American Man/Boy Love Association.

By Monday morning, Hammer was responding to Wood's comment, noting that Woods, 70, had dated a younger woman: "Didn't you date a 19 year old when you were 60 ???????"

Woods began dating his girlfriend, Kristen Bauguess, in 2013. At that time, she was 20 years old while he was 66. Before that, he dated Ashley Madison when he was 60, and she is thought to have been either 19 or 20.

This brought Tamblyn into the conversation.

Now 34, she accused the older actor of trying to pick her up when she was underage.

"James Woods tried to pick me and my friend up at a restaurant once," she tweeted. "He wanted to take us to Vegas. 'I'm 16,' I said. 'Even better,' he said."

Woods didn't at first respond. He instead tweeted, "If somebody has something of value to say, I always love to engage in a dialogue."

He went on to discuss politics and TV and accused columnist Charles M. Blow of blocking him.

Twitter user Jenn Ward wrote, "I met you once when you were in Shreveport, La. You stopped by my window in a hospital and asked for directions. Made.MyDay."

He replied by asking, "I'm so glad. Did I offer to take you to Vegas?"

A Twitter user then asked Woods directly, "What makes a 24yo/17yo gay relationship inherently indecent but skeevy old guys trying to pick up a pair of 16 year old girls is okay?"

He responded, "The first is illegal. The second is a lie."

Woods then tried to put the topic to rest by attacking liberals.

"Somebody told me the libs are helping. Troll traffic is up. I don't pay any attention really. I like Armie Hammer as an actor though, a lot," he wrote.

"Okay, now I want all my little trolls to put on their onesies and go to bed! Final word on this: I don't get a sh-- what liberals think," he added.

Tamblyn may have put her onesie on and gone to bed, but the next morning she was back at it, proving her claim.

She posted a screenshot of a text where she asked a friend, "Do you remember when James Woods and his friend tried to pick us up at Mel's Diner when we were teens?"

The friend responded, "Damn totally forgot about that hahahah."

Tamblyn captioned her screen cap, "Since I know people love to question the integrity and honesty of women when they come forward with stories like this, here you go."

Lena Dunham jumped into it and tweeted an article about this story and commented, "F--- this dude. I'd lay under a train for the brave queen that is @ambertamblyn (but I would not lay under James Woods)."

He commented, "Whew!"

And now it's brought out another Twitter user who acknowledged on Tamblyn's wall, "He tried 2 date a girl in my dorm freshman year. She'd put him off saying she had to study; he'd say bring your books; she was 18, he was 50."
