“It” has managed to pull in a genre record-shattering 123 million dollars opening this past weekend. It’s the third highest opening of the year, and it comes on a 35 million dollar budget. The movie is now the cheapest movie ever to earn a more than a hundred million its first weekend. The other major horror successes of 2017 took advantage of strategic release dates and built-up audience interest in a similar way. Jordan Peele's “Get Out," also hooked the attention of moviegoers who wouldn’t usually go to a horror film.
