Jimmy Kimmel tugged at all our heartstrings back in May when he discussed the health of his newborn son and added to the healthcare debate.

Three months later, he's giving an update on his little boy.

During the part of Jimmy Kimmel Live! that is usually reserved for his comedic monologue, the host broke down, getting very emotional, as he discussed the birth of his son Billy who needed heart surgery for a congenital defect when he was just three days old. Luckily, he was doing well.

Kimmel then turned political, discussing healthcare, and said, "If your baby is going to die, and it doesn't have to, it should not matter how much money you make. I think that's something, whether you're Republican or Democrat ... we all agree on that, right? Whatever your party ... we need to make sure people who are supposed to represent us, people who are meeting about this right now in Washington, understand that very clearly."

After the bill to repeal and replace the ACA was voted down recently, Kimmel's wife, Molly McNearney, took to Twitter to write, "Thank you @lisamurkowski, @Senator Collins, and @SenJohnMcCain for looking out for kids with pre-existing conditions like ours. Lots of love."

Kimmel himself is now updating everyone on the current health of Billy.

"He's doing great," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "Young Billy made his first visit to our office today."

"He's juggling," he quipped. "He's translating [French novelist Gustave] Flaubert from French into English. He's really an amazing kid. No — he smiles. That's pretty much it."

"He is very interested in ceiling fans," added Kimmel. "He likes those a lot. I could get him to pay the same amount for Netflix just to watch ceiling fans."

As for his current health, he explained Billy "has to have two more open heart surgeries. We would like to get them over with and not have to think about it all the time, but it could definitely be worse."

He also addressed his decision to address his son and healthcare on the show.

"I knew I had to say something, and I knew that I would get emotional. It occurred to me that maybe we could make it into something positive," he said. "I had a lot of time to think at the hospital, and it just so happened that our government was deciding whether or not millions of people should have healthcare at that time. I think it made a big impact on American citizens. I'm not sure, based on how our so-called leaders voted, whether it made a big impact on the Senate or House."

Asked if he would have Donald Trump on his show, he answered, "I absolutely would. I would love to talk to him about this. I would like to see, as a father and a person who prides himself on speaking the truth, what he thinks. If I were his next-door neighbor, and I didn't have health insurance for my child, I find it hard to believe he would ignore that."
