It came as quite a shock on Monday when Justin Bieber abruptly canceled the remaining dates of his "Purpose" World Tour. He did so due to "unforeseen circumstances."

While some are questioning his motives, an unlikely person has come to his defense: John Mayer.

"Due to unforeseen circumstances, Justin Bieber will cancel the remainder of the Purpose World Tour concerts." read a statement by the 23-year-old's rep. "Justin loves his fans and hates to disappoint them."

"He thanks his fans for the incredible experience of the Purpose World Tour over last 18 months. He is grateful and honored to have shared that experience with his cast and crew for over 150 successful shows across six continents during this run."

"However," the statement concluded, "after careful consideration, he has decided he will not be performing any further dates. Tickets will be refunded at point of purchase."

Bieber started this tour on March 9, 2016, in Seattle. The Canadian has been all over the world, including North America, Asia, Europe, Africa, and Latin America.

"Everything's fine. I've been on tour for two years. I love you guys. I think you guys are awesome," said the star in a video later on Monday. "Sorry for anybody who feels disappointed or betrayed, it's not my heart or anything. Have a blessed day."

Of what he will be doing instead of touring, Bieber answered, "Just resting, getting some relaxation. We're gonna ride some bikes."

John Mayer sees this for what it is and realizes Bieber is taking a much-needed break.

"When someone pulls remaining dates of a tour, it means they would have done real damage to themselves if they kept going," he tweeted. "We've lost so many great artists lately. I give Justin [two thumbs-up emoji] for realizing it was time to call it. You should too."

However, there is also a rumor that was first reported by Australia's Today Show that Bieber cancelled the tour to start his own church. This, of course, has not been confirmed by the star or his rep.
