Scott McCreery may seem like the nice, sweet country-crooning kid who won American Idol, but what many probably don't know about him is he's packing some heat. He has a concealed carry permit.

Permit or not, though, it got him into a little bit of trouble recently when he "forgot" he had his loaded gun with him when he went to the airport.

The 23-year-old North-Carolina native waltzed into Raleigh-Durham International Airport last week carrying a black 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun. Everyone will be glad to know TSA did its job and found it while he was going through security.

"I have been a concealed carry permit holder for awhile now after being robbed at gunpoint in 2014, and I take gun safety very seriously," he said in a statement.

"While in between tour dates last week, I went to go target shooting with a friend a few days before an early flight out of my hometown Raleigh-Durham airport. Unfortunately, I did not realize that I left my pistol in my backpack until the TSA found it during the security X-ray screening and rightly confiscated it."

It turned out okay for him, thankfully.

"I had my concealed carry permit on me so once they had checked everything out, they then released me to catch the next available flight," McCreery explained. "Great to know our airport security force is on the job. I have learned a lesson that I won't forget."

According to TMZ, not only did he have the loaded handgun, he also had two boxes of ammunition in his backpack.

He was cited with a misdemeanor violation for his forgetfulness.

He does need to realize, though, that if he is as dedicated to gun safety as he professes, he would know where his handgun is at all times and wouldn't be "forgetting" when he has it on his person.
