With his upcoming criminal trial for assault coming up soon, Bill Cosby has run out of legal maneuvers to try to get out of it, but he now seems to be going for the sympathy.

In a recent interview, he didn't talk about the charges against him but instead admitted that he is now blind.

The comedian and former TV dad hasn't done interviews in the past couple years. He did initially after the barrage of accusations came flooding in regarding his sexual behavior over several decades, but he hasn't been heard from since – until now.

Cosby explained the problem with his eyesight started two years ago. He was walking with his wife Camille and suddenly couldn't see. Doctors informed him that it was something that couldn't be fixed.

Not only did the accusations from nearly 60 women prevent him from doing interviews; it's also prevented him from performing. But he's hoping to put the legal matters behind him and get back to work.

"I miss it all, and I hope that day will come," said the 79-year-old. "I have some routines and storytelling that I am working on."

"I think about walking out on stage somewhere in the United States of America and sitting down in a chair," he continued, "and giving the performance that will be the beginning of the next chapter of my career."

He steered clear of discussing his legal matters and the accusations, but that didn't stop his daughter Evin from speaking up for him in a statement.

"The public persecution of my dad, my kids' grandfather, and the cruelty of the media and those who speak out branding my father a 'rapist' without ever knowing the truth, and who shame our family and our friends for defending my dad, makes all of this so much worse for my family and my children," she said. "When people are so quick to cast hate and make accusations of horrific violence against my dad, they are callous in their carelessness about the harm they are causing to others."

"He is not abusive, violent, or a rapist. Sure, like many celebrities tempted by opportunity, he had his affairs, but that was between him and my mother. They have worked through it and moved on, and I am glad they did for them and for our family," Evin insisted.

"The harsh and hurtful accusations of things that supposedly happened 40 or 50 years ago, before I was born, in another lifetime, and that have been carelessly repeated as truth without allowing my dad to defend himself and without requiring proof, has punished not just my dad but every one of us," she concluded.

Cosby will get that chance to defend himself when his trial begins in June.
