The Star Wars Celebration is currently underway in Orlando, Florida, and what better way to show the fans their appreciation during the 40th anniversary than to give us some teasers for the upcoming eighth installment of the series, The Last Jedi?

On Friday morning, fans were treated to a screening of the first teaser trailer for Episode VIII during a panel featuring director Rian Johnson as well as Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and, of course, Mark Hamill. The crew also released a teaser poster for the film.

Aside from sweeping views of new frontiers, the trailer most interestingly features Luke Skywalker (Hamill) finally speaking, ominously telling Rey (Ridley), "I only know one truth: it's time for the Jedi to end."

The poster features Rey triumphantly holding a lightsaber, with the faces of Skywalker and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) filling the red background.

The panel also introduced Star Wars newcomer Kelly Marie Tran, who was revealed to portray a new character named Rose, a member of the Resistance who works in maintenance but becomes an unlikely hero during an adventure with Finn (Boyega).

The celebration, which continues through April 16, features cast and crew, both past and present, interacting with fans and sharing behind-the-scenes stories and images. There are also staged events and exhibits for fans to participate in. Perhaps the most memorable moment so far, however, was a tribute video to the late Carrie Fisher, who portrayed the iconic Princess Leia throughout the series.

With the event still going strong, perhaps there will be more tidbits about the upcoming film released in the next few days. In the meantime, fans at home can watch panels live via the official Star Wars Facebook page.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will hit theaters on December 15, 2017. Below, watch the first teaser trailer, courtesy of Lucasfilm.
